How To Know God And Be Right With Him
The most important question you could ever ask in your lifetime is, am I right with God? If a person neglects to ask and seek such deep questions and answers relating to your life and your relationship with God, the consequences are eternal and devastating. So how does a person become right with God? Jesus said (John 14:6) I am the way the Truth and the life, no one comes to the Father (God) except through Me! Jesus is saying there is no other way to God except through Himself, and by saying this He is also saying that every other religion is false and does not truly lead to God the Father, because it does not include the Truth about who Jesus truly is. He is also saying that no one can be made right with God by their own efforts and goodness, Jesus was literally saying that He is the only way to be right and restored back to God the Father. Every other religion even some denominations of Christianity say that in order to be right with God you have to be a good enough person and follow all of the proper rules and meet all of the proper religious requirements, then and only then will God be pleased with you and you will have right standing with God, which is a complete contradiction to what Jesus said about Himself being the only way to the Father (God). Here are just a few scriptures from the Bible to make the point that we cannot become right with God based on our own works and goodness. Romans (3:23) All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. (Isah 64:6) All of our righteousness is like filthy rags. (Romans 3:20) by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His (Gods) sight. (Ephesians 2:8-9) For by grace you have been saved through faith, not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. So, the first step to be right with God is to recognize that Jesus is the only way to God, and you cannot attain this by your own good works or by being a good enough person and fulfilling religious requirements and duties. So how do you come to God through Jesus and why is Jesus so important? The Bible says that God is perfect, holy, pure, and righteous in every way, it even says that it is impossible for God to lie. Even though there are many that hope that they have been an overall good enough person and that when the day comes that they will stand before God, they hope that He will say to them, yeah, I suppose you've been good enough I guess I can accept you and overlook all of the other places that you have fallen short and sinned. Let me use a bit of an unpleasant analogy to help you understand. Take the person you love the most in your life, maybe your spouse, child, parents, siblings or so on. Let's say that some guy comes along in a heartless act and murders your loved one in cold blood. This murderer is later caught and goes to stand before the judge. The murderer happens to know the judge from childhood. The judge says to the murderer I'll tell you what, since we go way back, I'll cut you a break and let you off with a warning this time. Now what would you think of that judge? I am pretty sure that you would be beyond angry, and rightly so. Why? Because this judge is supposed to uphold justice and holds the power to enforce justice and this judge just basically spit on the grave of your loved one that was unjustly murdered by not upholding justice. In the same way God cannot just overlook our sin and shortcomings, He has to judge and punish sin, otherwise God would be no different than that unjust judge from the previous analogy. The Bible also tells us that God is love and that He loves us (humanity) with a love that is beyond our understanding and comprehension. So, God had to Judge and punish humanity for our sin because He is righteous and just. But He did not desire to give us the judgment and punishment we deserved, which would be eternal separation from Him in Hell. So, God was in a predicament. What God did to resolve this predicament was, God Himself decided to come to Earth as a man (Jesus) and Jesus is the only person that has ever lived a completely holy and sinless life and completely fulfilled and satisfied the law of God. Because Jesus fulfilled the law of God, He qualified to stand in our place to take our judgment and punishment on Himself and be a sacrifice on our behalf at the cross. The Bible says (2 Corinthians 5:21) God made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin to become sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Jesus also said that (John 3:3) unless a man is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of Heaven. So, what does this mean to be born again? The Bible talks about how all of humanity has fallen from God and from God's original intent for how He originally created us to be, which is to be love, which real love is selfless. We have all fallen short of God's original design for humanity and at our core we are all corrupt in heart and mind and ultimately selfish and self-centered which is the opposite of love and if you think about it, every evil thing comes out of selfishness and self-centeredness, which is not how God originally created us to be. The Bible says that God created us in His image and in His likeness, and it also says that God is love, but God gave us the free will of choice and because of this humanity has fallen from Love and Truth, from God and has become corrupt and self-centered at its core. This is why Jesus says that a man must be born again. So, everyone that is born into this world is born into the kingdom of darkness by default because it was inherited through the fall of humanity. This is why Jesus says that a man must be born again. Everyone in this world belongs to one of two kingdoms, either the kingdom of darkness or the Kingdom of Light. In order to be moved from the kingdom of darkness and placed into the Kingdom of Light, a person must be born again. When a person belongs to the kingdom of darkness they are influenced by darkness in their thinking, desires and resulting in their actions. The Bible even refers to satan as being the god of this world, (2 Corinthians 3-4) And even if our gospel (good news in Christ) is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god (satan, darkness) of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. So, what it means to be born again is when a person comes to recognize that they are fallen from God their Creator, and they have fallen short of who God created them to be and has become something contrary and even opposite. When that person makes a choice in their heart that they no longer want to belong to the kingdom of darkness, but they want to be restored back to God and to the kingdom of Light it is as simple as this. If your heart is sincere, in the sincerity of your heart you simply come before God and talk to Him, just like you're talking to anyone, it can be silent or out loud it doesn't matter, what matters is the sincerity and position of your heart towards Him. You just recognize that you have fallen short and sinned against God and that you want to be restored back to Him. He loves you right where you are at, no matter what you have done or how dirty you may feel, just recognize and believe that God has forgiven you completely because of what Jesus did for you on the cross. Ask His Holy Spirit to come into your heart, to live inside of you and change your heart and teach you how to walk and live for Him. This simple prayer of sincerity and believing what Jesus did for you changes you on the inside for eternity. God will then literally put His Spirit in you permanently and your spirit and God's Spirit literally became one. You can then have fellowship and communion with God, and you can begin to hear His voice and His leading in your life through His Spirit and God now sees you as perfect as He sees Jesus, not because you are perfect in all your actions, but He sees you spiritually through the blood and sacrifice of Jesus. Throughout your new walk with God, you will change for the better and continue to grow. The way to do that is to get into the Bible and begin to conform the way you think according to the word of God. The Bible tells us after being born again to not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. It is also very important to get connected to other strong believing mature Christians as well.
